BFG Is Looking For Talent Via Twitter
Late last week, we posted a new job opening for Assistant Content Manager in our Savannah office. We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes social media, and who can help us handle our growing client roster.
With that in mind, we decided to do things differently this time around with the application process. Instead of the usual cover letter and resume, we’re asking people to apply using Twitter. The job requires a great deal of social media savvy. So the hope is applicants will not only show us why they’re perfect for the job but also their understanding of Twitter and the social web.
Creativity is of course being encouraged. And we’re already receiving some noteworthy responses. Here are some we’ve received so far (and we’ll continue to update this list):
-Alan Smodic boldly went first.
-Nicole Galletta blogged about her interest and experience.
-Hal Thomas got BFG “wired.”
-More Tweets by @sbethallen, @stacycrosby, @consuelo_arroyo, @agretenstein
-A TwitPic from @angryswat
-A Tweet from @AldenWicker and recommendations from colleagues @lindseymorse, @erikahaydon, @avisualperson, @sbethallen, and @iamRolz
-Tweet from Paste Mag intern @mlryy
-Blog post from snappy dresser @MattJMcD and many recommendations
-Interactive presentation from @candaceperry
-A video interview challenge from @triciarobey
-A video introduction from @magzak
-A video sampling from @FilipSzy
We can’t wait to see how others will tackle this. By the way, if you contact us via DM, we’ll keep your responses on the DL.

The most fun I’ve ever had applying for a job! Thanks for the opportunity and the innovative application process!
Dear BFG,
I don’t usually do this, but since you are using social media, I will too. If I were hiring for this position, I wouldn’t second guess hiring Matt J. McDonald (http://is.gd/3N2Ig). Here’s why:
Even with my 15 years of deep marketing (including 5 years of social media) and adjunct professor experience, I still tap into Matt’s blog and conversations often because I always learn something new from his insights, experiences and perceptions regarding the marketing industry and social media space. Matt has truly eearned my respect…I can’t say that for many folks in the social media space.
As well Matt is a marketing nerd…i.e. he lives and breathes marketing, it’s NOT just a job, it’s part of who he is as a person (takes one to know one). The combination of that and his work in this space, he is no doubt highly regarded by marketing and social media thought leaders as being one of them.
I sincerely believe that Matt will make contributions to this position even BFG wasn’t considering when they wrote the job description. He knows this space inside and out, he understands the best practices, he’s very creative and he’s an excellent writer.
Matt also speaks on the topic of marketing/social media and I am sure your clients would love the opportunity to be able to tap into his brain.
If you’d like to chat more, feel free to DM me on Twitter.
All the best,
Beth Harte

Matt McDonald is a social media stud. I actually know him better than some folks. I interviewed him for a position a couple years ago. We were looking for a different fit at that point, but if I was in search of a content/social media engine, Matt would be on the top of my list. I won’t tell you who to hire, but you should certainly make sure you give Matt a long look. He’s a stud.
Many thanks for all of the recommendations!
